If you have studied genealogy in detail, personal or biblical, then you probably understand how difficult and confusing genealogy can become. There are several reasons for this including unusual family situations that occur in real life such as: multiple spouses, incest, adoption, missing information, not knowing who the biological father is, names being blotted out from a genealogical record, cultural rules for recording genealogy such as a grandfather (or great grandfather, or great-great grandfather etc.) potentially being recorded as the father, an adoptive parent being recorded as the father, an uncle or godparent being recorded as the father, a father-in-law being recorded as the father, etc. It can become a difficult task fast especially within a dysfunctional family. Although we may find some of these situations within the Holy Scriptures, thankfully the genealogies are preserved in a way in which we have accurate information that is not too difficult to figure out from the abundant information given.
First of all, why is genealogy so important?
Elohim(God) had told us long ago about the lineage of the coming Messiah as well as the time-period in which the Messiah would arrive, meaning that the Messiah had to meet certain genealogical and time requirements to even qualify. In the time of Yeshua of Nazareth some people could recite their genealogies all the way back to Adam, in fact, Luke chapter 3 from the B’rit ha’Dasha(renewed covenant) Writings gives us an example of Yeshua’s genealogy all the way back to Adam. Very few Jews in this modern day can recite their genealogies that far back, and NONE today are able to fit the time qualification for being “the Messiah (ha’Mashiakh).”
What were the genealogical requirements of the Messiah, and why did this Messiah have to arrive in Yeshua’s era to qualify?
The Messiah must be from the Tribe of Judah/Yehudah, a Jew (Genesis 49:10, Luke 3:23-33) from Bethlehem (Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:1), and have the blood of King David (2 Samuel 7:12-16, Luke 3:23-31) as well as the right to the throne as passed down through King Solomon/Shlomo (1 Kings 9:4-7; Matthew 1:6-7). According to the prophecies the Messiah had to arrive before the destruction of the second temple which occurred in 70 AD (Daniel 9:24-26).
Scripture referenced:
[Genesis 49] (1) And Ya’akov called his sons and said, “Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days: (2) “Gather together and hear, you sons of Ya’akov, and listen to Yisrael your father.
… (8) Yehudah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise. Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies. Your father’s children shall bow down before you. (9) Yehudah is a lion’s whelp. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion, and as a lion, who shall rouse him? (10) The scepter shall not depart from Yehudah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh comes, and to Him shall be the obedience of the people. (11) Binding his donkey to the vine, and his donkey’s colt to the choice vine. He washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes. (12) His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.”
Strong's Concordance #7886: Shiloh - שִׁילֹה
Definition: Perhaps "he whose it is,” a Messianic title.
From “Shalah,” tranquil; Shiloh, an epithet of the Messiah -- Shiloh.
[Micah 5] (1) Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops. He has laid siege against us. They will strike the judge of Yisrael with a rod on the cheek. (2) “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Yehudah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Yisrael, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.” (3) Therefore He shall give them up, until the time that she who is in labor has given birth. Then the remnant of His brethren shall return to the children of Yisrael. (4) And He shall stand and feed His flock in the strength of YHWH, in the majesty of the Name of YHWH, his God, and they shall abide, for now He shall be great to the ends of the earth, (5a) and this One shall be peace.
[Note: The first part of this prophecy in Micah chapter 5 (verses 2 through 5(a)) speaks in a future tense of the coming of the Messiah, the one many recognize as being "Yeshua of Nazareth." The later part of the prophecy (Micah 5 verses 5(b) through 15) speaks of when the Assyrian(s) invade the Holy Land. Take note that the time of this second prophecy mentioned in Micah chapter 5 is marked as: “WHEN the Assyrian comes.” Prophecy is often fulfilled progressively, or, “part now,” and “part later” at a set time rather than everything in an instant, usually split into pieces by descriptions such as “when this happens…” Also note that the Scriptures were originally not split into chapters and verses, that was a helpful invention added later on. The first part of this prophecy gained fulfillment at the coming of the Messiah “whose goings forth are from old, from everlasting.”]

[2 Samuel 7] (1) Now it came to pass when the king was dwelling in his house, and YHWH had given him rest from all his enemies all around, (2) that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.” (3) Then Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for YHWH is with you.” (4) But it happened that night that the Word of YHWH came to Nathan, saying, (5) “Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says YHWH: “Would you build a house for Me to dwell in? (6) For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought the children of Yisrael up from Egypt, even to this day, but have moved about in a tent and in a tabernacle. (7) Wherever I have moved about with all the children of Yisrael, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Yisrael, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Yisrael, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’”’ (8) Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says YHWH of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Yisrael. (9) And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. (10) Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Yisrael, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously, (11) since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Yisrael, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also YHWH tells you that He will make you a house. (12) “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. (13) He shall build a house for My Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. (14) I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. (15) But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. (16) And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”’” (17) According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David. (18) Then King David went in and sat before YHWH; and he said: “Who am I, O Master YHWH? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far? (19) And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O Master YHWH; and You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come. Is this the manner of man, O Master YHWH? (20) Now what more can David say to You? For You, Master YHWH, know Your servant. (21) For Your Word’s sake, and according to Your own heart, You have done all these great things, to make Your servant know them. (22) Therefore You are great, O Master YHWH. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears. (23) And who is like Your people, like Yisrael, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a name—and to do for Yourself great and awesome deeds for Your land—before Your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, the nations, and their gods? (24) For You have made Your people Yisrael Your very own people forever; and You, YHWH, have become their God. (25) “Now, O YHWH God, the Word which You have spoken, concerning Your servant and concerning his house, establish it forever and do as You have said. (26) So let Your Name be magnified forever, saying, ‘YHWH of hosts is the God over Yisrael.’ And let the house of Your servant David be established before You. (27) For You, O YHWH of hosts, God of Yisrael, have revealed this to Your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray this prayer to You. (28) “And now, O Master YHWH, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant. (29) Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You, O Master YHWH, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed forever.”
[1 Kings 9] (1) And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished building the house of YHWH and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he wanted to do, (2) that YHWH appeared to Solomon the second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon. (3) And YHWH said to him: “I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you have made before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built to put My Name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. (4) Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, (5) then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Yisrael forever, as I promised David your father, saying, ‘You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Yisrael.’ (6) But if you or your sons at all turn from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them, (7) then I will cut off Yisrael from the land which I have given them; and this house which I have consecrated for My Name I will cast out of My sight. Yisrael will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples. (8) And as for this house, which is exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and will hiss, and say, ‘Why has YHWH done thus to this land and to this house?’ (9) Then they will answer, ‘Because they forsook YHWH their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore YHWH has brought all this calamity on them.’” (10) Now it happened at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of YHWH and the king’s house (11) (Hiram the king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar and cypress and gold, as much as he desired), that King Solomon then gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee. (12) Then Hiram went from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, but they did not please him. (13) So he said, “What kind of cities are these which you have given me, my brother?” And he called them the land of Cabul, as they are to this day. (14) Then Hiram sent the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold. (15) And this is the reason for the labor force which King Solomon raised: to build the house of YHWH, his own house, the Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer. (16) (Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and taken Gezer and burned it with fire, had killed the Canaanites who dwelt in the city, and had given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.) (17) And Solomon built Gezer, Lower Beth Horon, (18) Baalath, and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land of Yehudah, (19) all the storage cities that Solomon had, cities for his chariots and cities for his cavalry, and whatever Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion. (20) All the people who were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of the children of Yisrael— (21) that is, their descendants who were left in the land after them, whom the children of Yisrael had not been able to destroy completely—from these Solomon raised forced labor, as it is to this day. (22) But of the children of Yisrael Solomon made no forced laborers, because they were men of war and his servants: his officers, his captains, commanders of his chariots, and his cavalry. (23) Others were chiefs of the officials who were over Solomon’s work: five hundred and fifty, who ruled over the people who did the work. (24) But Pharaoh’s daughter came up from the City of David to her house which Solomon had built for her. Then he built the Millo. (25) Now three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he had built for YHWH, and he burned incense with them on the altar that was before YHWH. So he finished the temple. (26) King Solomon also built a fleet of ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Elath on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom. (27) Then Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, seamen who knew the sea, to work with the servants of Solomon. (28) And they went to Ophir, and acquired four hundred and twenty talents of gold from there, and brought it to King Solomon.
What exactly is “a Messiah,” or “the Messiah?”
The word “Messiah(Mashiakh in Hebrew)” means “anointed one,” referring to a person who is anointed such as priests or kings including the prophesied Messiah mentioned in the book of Daniel chapter 9. The phrase “the Messiah(ha’Mashiach in Hebrew)” with the definite article “the” most often refers to the specific Messiah that is prophesied throughout Scripture, although can also refer to the High Priest as seen in the book of Leviticus verses 4:3, 4:5, 4:16 and 6:22 when coupled with the word "priest:" ha'Kohen ha'Mashiach הַכֹּהֵ֧ן הַמָּשִׁ֛יחַ meaning "the anointed priest."
[Daniel 9] (23) At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision: (24) “Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city, until the measure of transgression is filled, and that of sin is complete, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy. (25) “Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah(Mashiach) the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times. (26) And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah(Mashiach) shall be cut off, but not for Himself, and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war desolations are determined.
(27) Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.”
Matthew chapter 1 and Luke chapter 3 seem to have differences in the genealogical record of Yeshua, why is this?
These two genealogical lists, Matthew chapter 1 and Luke chapter 3, both belong to Yeshua, but are recorded in a different way --- one from his mother giving him the blood of David and the other from his father, giving him the right to the throne through Solomon/Shlomo. For example, while Matthew’s list of genealogy DOES include “women” and is untraditional in a “Jewish-sense,” Luke’s list of genealogy is stricter towards “Jewish-tradition” which includes listing ONLY males.
Many scholars have concluded by the wording of Luke’s genealogy: “Yeshua… being (as was supposed) the son of Yosef, the son of Heli,” indicates that the genealogy listed in Luke chapter 3 is Yeshua’s genealogy through Maryam since her genealogy would be listed through her husband in accordance to strict Jewish custom, and since the record in Matthew chapter 1 is with little doubt the biological genealogy of Yosef, who was the adoptive father of Yeshua, it makes sense for Maryam’s blood-line to be listed as well. I would note Maryam is the biological mother of Yeshua and her genealogy goes all the way back to Adam and Eve. Heli has long been recognized to be the father-in-law of Yosef, making Yosef "Heli’s son" through marriage to Maryam, who was Heli’s daughter.
[Matthew 1] (1) The book of the genealogy of Yeshua the Messiah, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham: (2) Abraham begot Yitzaak, Yitzaak begot Ya’akov, and Ya’akov begot Yehudah and his brothers. (3) Yehudah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram. (4) Ram begot Amminadab, Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon. (5) Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, (6) and Jesse begot David the king. David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah. (7) Solomon begot Rehoboam, Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa. (8) Asa begot Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot Uzziah. (9) Uzziah begot Jotham, Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah. (10) Hezekiah begot Manasseh, Manasseh begot Amon, and Amon begot Yosiah. (11) Yosiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon. (12) And after they were brought to Babylon, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel. (13) Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor. (14) Azor begot Zadok, Zadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud. (15) Eliud begot Eleazar, Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Ya’akov. (16) And Ya’akov begot Yosef the gowra of Maryam of whom was born Yeshua who is called “Messiah.” (17) So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Messiah are fourteen generations. (18) Now the birth of Yeshua Messiah was as follows: After His mother Maryam was betrothed to Yosef, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. (19) Then Yosef her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. (20) But while he thought about these things, behold, an messenger of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Yosef, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Maryam your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. (21) And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Yeshua, for He will save His people from their sins.” (22) So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: (23) “Behold! The virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” (24) Then Yosef, being aroused from sleep, did as the messenger of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, (25) and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son, and he called His name “Yeshua.”
[Luke 3] (1) Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, (2) while Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of God came to Yohannon the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. (3) And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, (4) as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord. Make His paths straight. (5) Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low. The crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways smooth; (6) And all flesh shall see the Salvation of God.’” (7) Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be immersed by him, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? (8) Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. (9) And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” (10) So the people asked him, saying, “What shall we do then?” (11) He answered and said to them, “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.” (12) Then tax collectors also came to be immersed, and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” (13) And he said to them, “Collect no more than what is appointed for you.” (14) Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, “And what shall we do?” So he said to them, “Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.” (15) Now as the people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about Yohannon, whether he was the Messiah or not, (16) Yohannon answered, saying to all, “I indeed immerse you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will immerse you with the Holy Spirit and fire. (17) His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.” (18) And with many other exhortations he preached to the people. (19) But Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by him concerning Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, (20) also added this, above all, that he shut Yohannon up in prison. (21) When all the people were immersed, it came to pass that Yeshua also was immersed; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. (22) And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” (23) Now Yeshua Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Yosef, the son of Heli, (24) the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Yosef, (25) the son of Mattathiah, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, (26) the son of Maath, the son of Mattathiah, the son of Semei, the son of Yosef, the son of Yehudah, (27) the son of Joannas, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, (28) the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er, (29) the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, (30) the son of Simeon, the son of Yehudah, the son of Yosef, the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim, (31) the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattathah, the son of Nathan, the son of David, (32) the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, (33) the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Yehudah, (34) the son of Ya’akov, the son of Yitzaak, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, (35) the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah, (36) the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, (37) the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan, (38) the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
Why is the virgin birth important?
Following King Solomon’s bloodline there was a curse mentioned in the book of Jeremiah chapter 22 verse 30 which signified that NONE of Yehoiakim’s blood descendants would have the right to the throne of Yehudah. Yehoiakim was the current descendant of King Solomon/Shlomo who carried the right to the throne. This situation was long perplexing to the Jewish people expecting a King from David’s line to always be sitting on the throne. It seemed as if this right to the throne had ended, despite God’s previous words. Yosef, the adoptive father of Yeshua, carried the right to the throne through Yehoiakim and Solomon, but since Yeshua was placed in Maryam’s womb through the Spirit of God rather than Yosef’s seed, Yeshua is able to carry the right to the throne through Yosef without the curse of Yehoiakim’s bloodline, and have the blood of David through Maryam thus fulfilling God’s plan which was first eluded to in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:14-15), the head of the serpent being bruised by the Seed of a woman.
[Genesis 3] (14) So YHWH, God, said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field. On your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. (15) And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed. He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”
[Jeremiah 22] (1) Thus says YHWH: “Go down to the house of the king of Yehudah, and there speak this word, (2) and say, ‘Hear the Word of YHWH, O king of Yehudah, you who sit on the throne of David, you and your servants and your people who enter these gates! (3) Thus says YHWH: “Execute judgment and righteousness, and deliver the plundered out of the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong and do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place. (4) For if you indeed do this thing, then shall enter the gates of this house, riding on horses and in chariots, accompanied by servants and people, kings who sit on the throne of David. (5) But if you will not hear these words, I swear by Myself,” says YHWH, “that this house shall become a desolation.”’” (6) For thus says YHWH to the house of the king of Yehudah: “You are Gilead to Me, the head of Lebanon, yet I surely will make you a wilderness, cities which are not inhabited. (7) I will prepare destroyers against you, everyone with his weapons. They shall cut down your choice cedars and cast them into the fire. (8) And many nations will pass by this city; and everyone will say to his neighbor, ‘Why has YHWH done so to this great city?’ (9) Then they will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of YHWH their God, and worshiped other gods and served them.’” (10) Weep not for the dead, nor bemoan him. Weep bitterly for him who goes away, for he shall return no more, nor see his native country. (11) For thus says YHWH concerning Shallum the son of Yosiah, king of Yehudah, who reigned instead of Yosiah his father, who went from this place: “He shall not return here anymore, (12) but he shall die in the place where they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more. (13) “Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness and his chambers by injustice, who uses his neighbor’s service without wages and gives him nothing for his work, (14) who says, ‘I will build myself a wide house with spacious chambers, and cut out windows for it, paneling it with cedar and painting it with vermilion.’ (15) “Shall you reign because you enclose yourself in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. (16) He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Was not this knowing Me?” says YHWH. (17) “Yet your eyes and your heart are for nothing but your covetousness, for shedding innocent blood, and practicing oppression and violence.” (18) Therefore thus says YHWH concerning Yehoiakim the son of Yosiah, king of Yehudah: “They shall not lament for him, saying, ‘Alas, my brother!’ or ‘Alas, my sister!’ They shall not lament for him, saying, ‘Alas, master!’ or ‘Alas, his glory!’ (19) He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey, dragged and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem. (20) “Go up to Lebanon, and cry out, and lift up your voice in Bashan. Cry from Abarim, for all your lovers are destroyed. (21) I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, ‘I will not hear.’ This has been your manner from your youth, that you did not obey My voice. (22) The wind shall eat up all your rulers, and your lovers shall go into captivity. Surely then you will be ashamed and humiliated for all your wickedness. (23) O inhabitant of Lebanon, making your nest in the cedars, how gracious will you be when pangs come upon you, like the pain of a woman in labor? (24) “As I live!” declares YHWH, “Though Coniah the son of Yehoiakim, king of Yehudah, were the signet upon My Right Hand, yet I would pluck you off; (25) and I will give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of those whose face you fear—the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the hand of the Chaldeans. (26) So I will cast you out, and your mother who bore you, into another country where you were not born, and there you shall die. (27) But to the land to which they desire to return, there they shall not return. (28) Is this man Coniah a despised, broken idol— A vessel in which is no pleasure? Why are they cast out, he and his descendants, and cast into a land which they do not know? (29) O earth, earth, earth, hear the Word of YHWH!” (30) Thus says YHWH: “Write this man down as childless, a man who shall not prosper in his days; for none of his seed shall be accepted to sit on the throne of David, and to rule again in Yehudah.”
Was the curse ever lifted?
There has been debate in the Jewish community over if this curse was ever lifted, however, the Scriptures never tell us that the curse was lifted. Elohim(God) made the declaration in verse 24 of this chapter, “As I live! declares YHWH,” which seems to suggest this was a permanent curse which would also explain why so many Jews were perplexed/confused about the lineage of the coming King Messiah in regards to the throne being passed down through King Solomon/Shlomo upon studying this curse mentioned in the book of Jeremiah.
[Jeremiah 22:24] “As I live!” declares YHWH, “Though Coniah the son of Yehoiakim, king of Yehudah, were the signet upon My Right Hand, yet I would pluck you off,"
[Jeremiah 22:30] Thus says YHWH: “Write this man down as childless, a man who shall not prosper in his days; for NONE of his seed shall be accepted to sit on the throne of David, and to rule again in Yehudah!"
Conclusion
Yeshua fits both the genealogical and time requirements to be the Messiah. If the prophesied Messiah did not come before the destruction of the 2nd temple, then there is no ha'Mashiach(the Messiah) and the prophesies would have been wrong. Thankfully due to the numerous witness and testimonies of believers, we do know that Yeshua IS the Messiah(ha'Mashiach).
Those who are His will recognize his voice.
